Brazing and Welding

At Duny Group, we’ve gained extensive experience and expertise in the manufacture of machined precision OEM parts over more than 50 years, establishing us as an industry leader. We have gained a reputation for quality components combined with good customer service and communication, enabling us to establish long-term partnerships with clients in a vast range of industries.

Herculock is an integral division of Duny Group with a focus on repairing broken metal castings using a cold metal locking process. Herculock also provides a variety of other services, including brazing and welding.

Brazing & Welding

Joining two pieces of metal can be done in a variety of ways, each requiring a specific set of skills and superior understanding of the specific properties of the material and part type. Beyond our aforementioned metal locking process, Herculock also regularly uses two different heat-based processes for fabrication and repair.

Welding

The process of welding requires heating the two metal components to the point of melting in order to fuse them together. After heating the two metals at the intended joint and applying pressure to force them together, a welding pool of molten metal from both pieces creates a fused bond as they cool. Preventing oxidation or contamination within the fused joint requires the use of a third filler metal, which is melted into the weld pool.

An understanding of melting points of various metals is critical to the welding process. The properties of the metal and the details of the application will determine which welding method is most appropriate for use.

Brazing

In contrast to welding, brazing does not melt the two metal components. Joining two metal items through brazing involves melting a filler metal, which flows into the joint or crack between the two metals. The metal used in brazing must have a lower melting point than the metal components it joins. Brazing rods require flux in order to maintain the purity of the metal, preventing oxidation and contamination of the joint. Brazing also requires a critical understanding of the properties of the metal in order to select the proper filler metal.

Brazing & Welding Capabilities

Herculock has more than 75 years of experience to provide quality metal inert gas (MIG) welding, arc welding, and brazing services to meet specific joining and repair needs for our customers. Our other value-added services include:

  • Boring
  • Burning
  • Drilling
  • Milling
  • Slotting
  • Turning

We have the capability to work with customers and applications within almost any industry. Our primary focus is the repair of cast metal parts and our capabilities include the brazing and welding of a wide variety of cast materials, including cast iron, stainless steels, and all mild steels.

Knowing the right process to use on various types of metal in order to join them or repair them requires expertise in metal properties and a thorough understanding of which technique best suits each unique situation. Herculock draws on extensive experience to ensure the prompt and reliable repair of cast metal parts.
